My grandpa, Leo Roovers, was a train mechanic on the dutch railway company. In his young years, he made some extra money by making and selling objects of copper and brass. Objects such as cole buckets, little ornaments, candle holders, lamps etc. Most of it he made out of old morter shells from WW2. I still have one of the year 1942. My grandpa died about 7 years ago.
I now regret that I've never learned the trade from him. When he was still alive I wasn't interested in these things, but now I admire the craftsmanship in his work immensely, that man was a true artist! I have some of his work, some pieces are unfinished and I'm trying to finish them for my grandma, she's still alive.
